Critical Remote Code Execution Vulnerability in Drupal Core

Drupal core contains a critical remote code execution vulnerability, identified as CVE-2026-014, requiring immediate updates to patched versions.

On October 14, 2026, the Drupal security team disclosed a critical remote code execution (RCE) vulnerability in Drupal core, tracked as SA-CORE-2026-014 (CVE-2026-014). This vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected systems by sending specially crafted requests. Given the high severity and the nature of RCE vulnerabilities in content management systems, there is a risk of exploitation leading to total system compromise, unauthorized data access, and potential persistence.

The vulnerability affects Drupal core installations across several branches, including 11.4.x, 11.3.x, and 10.6.x. Administrators are urged to apply patches immediately by upgrading to versions 11.4.10, 11.3.19, or 10.6.19 respectively to mitigate exposure.

Impact

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability allows an unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code within the context of the web server process. This can lead to full server takeover, data exfiltration, modification of application content, and further network propagation. The impact is significant for all organizations hosting public-facing Drupal instances.

Recommendation

  • Immediately upgrade all Drupal core instances to version 11.4.10, 11.3.19, or 10.6.19, as applicable to the deployment branch, to address CVE-2026-014.
  • Audit web server logs for suspicious POST requests or abnormal file execution patterns directed at the Drupal installation directory following the application of patches.
  • Implement strict web application firewall (WAF) filtering to detect and block traffic patterns associated with known RCE attempts against common CMS frameworks.

Immediate actions

Upgrade Drupal core to 11.4.10, 11.3.19, or 10.6.19.
