SQL Injection Vulnerability in IBM Platform RTM

IBM Platform RTM contains a SQL injection vulnerability that allows a remote, unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary SQL statements against the backend database, leading to potential unauthorized data access, modification, or deletion.

CVE search metadata

CVE search record: CVE-2026-17619. Severity: high. CVSS: 8.6. KEV: no. Product: Platform RTM. Brief: SQL Injection Vulnerability in IBM Platform RTM. Brief link: https://feed.craftedsignal.io/briefs/2026-09-ibm-rtm-sqli/

IBM Platform RTM is susceptible to a SQL injection vulnerability identified as CVE-2026-17619. This vulnerability stems from improper neutralization of special elements used in an SQL command within the application. A remote, unauthenticated attacker can exploit this flaw by sending specially crafted SQL statements to the affected system. Successful exploitation grants the attacker the ability to interact directly with the backend database, potentially leading to unauthorized disclosure of sensitive data, modification of database content, or deletion of existing records. Given the high CVSS base score of 8.6, this flaw represents a significant risk to the integrity and confidentiality of the underlying database environment. Defenders should prioritize auditing web application logs for anomalous SQL syntax in request parameters and verify that all Platform RTM instances are evaluated against the vendor's forthcoming security guidance or patch releases.

Impact

Successful exploitation of CVE-2026-17619 could allow an attacker to gain full unauthorized access to the application database. This could result in the theft of proprietary monitoring data, unauthorized modification of configuration or user accounts, and complete loss of data availability if the attacker opts to delete critical database entries. All organizations utilizing IBM Platform RTM are at risk of this remote exploitation if the application is internet-facing or reachable by untrusted users.

Recommendation

Prioritize the identification of internet-facing IBM Platform RTM instances within the organization. Monitor web application firewall (WAF) logs for common SQL injection patterns, such as UNION SELECT, SLEEP(), or excessive special characters in parameters directed at the IBM Platform RTM web interface. Because the vulnerability allows unauthenticated access, ensure that network-level access control lists (ACLs) are configured to limit exposure of the RTM administrative interface to known-secure management subnets.

Immediate actions

Inventory all IBM Platform RTM installations and ensure they are not exposed to the public internet.
